1.  Verify the credentials of the person with whom you have hired to perform the conversion.
2.  If you have used the program for several years, understand that there will be some loss of data.  This can be due to data corruption, the integrity of the data itself and the methods by which the data was inputed into the program to begin with.
3.  Check with the software company to see if they provide a template for the conversion from one program to another.  While this is not full proof, it will serve as a good start.
4.  Keep the old program on a separate computer somewhere in the office to be used as a reference point for client information for at least 5 years after the data conversion.
